Frédéric François Chopin (1 March 1810 – 17 October 1849) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist. He was one of the great masters of Romantic music.

Chopin was born in the village of Żelazowa Wola, in the Duchy of Warsaw, to a French-expatriate father and Polish mother and was regarded as a child-prodigy pianist. On 2 November 1830, at the age of twenty, he left Warsaw for Austria, intending to go on to Italy. The outbreak of the Polish November Uprising seven days later, and its subsequent suppression by Russia, led to Chopin becoming one of many expatriates of the Polish Great Emigration.

In Paris, Chopin made a comfortable living as a composer and piano teacher, while giving few public performances. Though an ardent Polish patriot, in France he used the French versions of his names and eventually, to avoid having to rely on Imperial Russian documents, became a French citizen. After some ill-fated romantic involvements with Polish women, from 1837 to 1847 he had a turbulent relationship with the French authoress George Sand. Always in frail health, he died in Paris in 1849, aged thirty-nine, of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Chopin's compositions were written primarily for the piano as solo instrument. Though they are technically demanding, the emphasis in his style is on nuance and expressive depth. Chopin invented musical forms such as the instrumental ballade and was responsible for major innovations in the piano sonata, mazurka, waltz, nocturne, étude, impromptu and prélude.

Claude Bolling is a world famous French jazz pianist, composer, arranger and conductor, who virtually defined the concept of jazz-classical crossover with his groundbreaking work "Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano" (CBS) which stayed Number 1 on the US Billboard's charts for a phenomenal 464 weeks !

His works are also very important in film music with more than a hundred film and TV soundtracks compositions to his credit ! Best known in that sphere for his contribution to the Alain Delon- Jacques Deray gangster spoof Borsalino in 1970.

Claude Bolling is often referred to as "Duke Ellington's spiritual son", not only because he was a protege and close friend of the jazz legend, but because he is the best living interpreter of Ellington's sound.

As a player, his skill with the keyboard and deep feeling about his music is immediately heard and as an entertainer, it is always very apparent that this man actually enjoys communicating with audience members and bringing them to their feet !

For many years regarded as the foremost French ragtime and boogiewoogie pianist, Bolling’s own keyboard style derived at least in part from such greats as Art Tatum and Teddy Wilson.

His meeting with Stéphane Grappelli in 1991 for the album First Class (which won both the Django d’Or 1993 and Prix du HCF) is another great phonographic success. These issues allow the Claude Bolling big band to rightful take its place at the top of the list of modern day big band jazz orchestras, paralleling the great big bands to which it walks in stride with.

With his big band, Bolling toured the United States in 1989, 1991 and 1996 and Central America in 1995 and 1998 and he has variously joined forces with the Illinois Jacquet and Mercer Ellington orchestras.
In 1994, at the Caen monument, the Bolling big-band opened a series of concerts marking the fiftieth anniversary of D-Day.

His ongoing interest in the music of his idol prompted him to make the first complete recording of Ellington’s Black, Brown and Beige (1989) and to perform, in Paris in 1996, the suite A Drum is a Woman.

The Claude Bolling Big Band of today is comprised of talented musicians, several who have remained with him for many years. It celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006 and made a tour of the world playing to large audiences in the United States, in Asia, in South America, and in Mexico.

Today Claude Bolling occupies, by the reflection of his persona and accomplishments, the role of roving French ambassador of jazz throughout the world. He is of the same class and school where came the other two grand French masters of jazz, Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli.

- Big Band (Claude Bolling + 18) Big Band's Repertoire

- Quintet (Claude Bolling + doublebass + drums/percussions + trumpet/bugle +
saxophone/clarinet)
- "Classical and Jazz" Trio (Claude Bolling + doublebass + drums/percussions)

Τι να πρωτοδιαλέξεις από τους Talking Heads; Ίσως από τις πιο "δύσκολες" επιλογές μου. Για να πάρετε μια ιδέα προτείνω ανεπιφύλακτα την ζωντανή συναυλία "Stop Making Sense". Έχει γραφτεί (1) γι'αυτήν την ταινία ότι "όποιος δεν γνωρίζει τους Talking Heads μετά την ταινία μπορεί να γίνει αυτόματα οπαδός τους" και ότι "θεωρείται από πολλούς κριτικούς η καλύτερη ταινία-συναυλία όλων των εποχών!"

Πειραματικό ροκ για σήμερα από το 1972. Δύσκολη μουσική και ακόμα πιό δύσκολοι στοίχοι αλλά επέλεξα τραγούδια ως επί το πλείστον εμπορικά (;).

Θα διακινδυνεύσω και μια ερμηνεία για τα τραγούδια: Το πρώτο αναφέρεται στο αγαθό της υγείας ως πολυτιμότερο του πλούτου και το δεύτερο στην πυρηνική καταστροφή.

Πριν την πρώτη ανάρτηση του 2009 θα ήθελα να ευχηθώ σε όλους τους αναγνώστες - ακροατές αυτού του ιστολογίου, Χρόνια Καλά και Καλή Χρονιά.

Η πρώτη φετινή ανάρτηση θα ασχοληθεί με τους Soft Machine. Ένα συγκρότημα από την Αγγλία και συγκεκριμένα από το Canterbury. To όνομα τους προέρχεται από το ομώνυμο βιβλίο του W. Burroughs. Δημιουργήθηκαν το 1966 και ήταν από τους κύριους εκπροσώπους της "σκηνής του Καντέρμπουρι". Πρωτοπόροι του progressive rock με στοιχεία jazz, fusion και psychedelic.

Κάτι ελληνικό σήμερα. To Aphrodite's Child μπορεί να μην είναι γνωστό σε όλους αλλά ποιός δεν ξέρει τον Βαγγέλη Παπαθανασίου και τον Ντέμη Ρούσσο.
Το τραγούδι είναι από τη δουλειά του συγκροτήματος 666. Η ιδέα ήταν του Παπαθανασίου και η έμπνευση της από την αποκάλυψη του Ιωάννη.

Χαρακτηρίστηκε ο καλύτερος άγνωστος κιθαρίστας του κόσμου. Ο ίδιος είπε ίσως γιατί το μόνο που τον ενδιέφερε ήταν να μάθει να παίζει την κιθάρα. Ο Roy Buchanan παίζει blues μ'ένα μοναδικό τρόπο.
To πάθος του ήταν δυστυχώς το αλκοόλ το οποίο κατά μία εκδοχή τον οδήγησε στην αυτοκτονία μετά από μία σύλληψη του. Βρέθηκε κρεμασμένος στο κελί του λίγες ώρες μετά...

Γι' αυτόν τον μουσικό τι μπορούμε να πούμε; Μόνο ότι 18 χρονών σε ατύχημα έπαθε σοβαρά εγκαύματα που του παρέλυσαν το 3ο και 4ο δάχτυλο του αριστερού του χεριού. Έπρεπε να ξαναμάθει την αγαπημένη του κιθάρα από την αρχή... με μόνο δύο δάκτυλα αυτή την φορά...
Django Reinhardt λοιπόν σ' ένα από τα τραγούδια του που μου αρέσουν χρόνια μετά το πρώτο άκουσμα...
